Sigil Shoal: Healing and Revealing During the Super Moon in Taurus

This week's super moon is a time when the moon is much closer to the earth than average and appears brighter. According to astrologer Austin Coppock, its occurrence in the sign Taurus means we can harness its power for Earthy purposes like relaxation and stability. Later in the week Neptune is going to pass through the moon's south node and then station direct. In his article Threads, Coppock sees this as a time where storylines and narratives can fall apart. This is definitely something I'm seeing in my life and the lives of my friends and relatives. It's a time for self-nurturing and getting a solid footing so that we can continue to meet the demands of the world. Passing through the south node means purification for Neptune's influences, like compassion, dreams, sacrifice, deception, misunderstanding, and inspiration. This seems so necessary at a time when a lot of people in America are scared and bewildered, and our conversations are filled with hate. I hope to write further on this topic, but I'll share a few thoughts I recently wrote on social media:

To everyone mourning, scared, or upset over the election results: don't give up. Use that passion to make the world a better place. None of the bad things we fear he might do have happened yet. This is a wake-up call, as if we needed yet another. Let's work to promote love, education, and critical thinking in our communities and stay politically involved even when there's not an election running.

If you believe that hatred, racism, misogyny, or intolerance got Trump elected, let's make a society that doesn't want to vote for that again in 4 years. If you think it's desperation over income inequality, poor representation, crony capitalism, and corporate oligarchy, let's work against that. If you're a Clinton supporter, remember that even she said only half of Trump supporters are deplorable. A lot of people that voted for him believe white people are the master race, but also a lot of people don't. America was ready for a populist, and when a benevolent one wasn't offered, we picked one that sure seems less benevolent. We all have to work together. No nukes have landed yet. We can do our best to not just survive these next 4 years but to improve things locally and politically.

Many people are feeling down at this time. Many are bewildered or upset over the state of our world and scared of what the future may bring. It’s all right to take some time to grieve. But after you grieve, don’t give up on the world. Your passion and your compassion is what the world needs in order to heal. Having compassion for yourself in the times that you’re suffering and afraid, and having compassion for ourselves in the times that we’ve acted badly out of fear, hatred, or anger, can soften us up toward those we might think are acting out of hatred right now. In the end there is no “us” vs. “them” – only “we.” We share this one world, all interconnected and depending on one another. Our compassion and commitment, to ourselves and to others, is still needed.

I'm not going to tell people not to be angry, especially if you're in one of the groups Trump has threatened. And even ignoring Trump himself, he's surrounded himself with some other shady characters. Newt Gingrich is being considered for a cabinet position, and in June he said we should start a new Committee on Un-American Activities and revoke the citizenship of people who support the enemy. But instead of just being angry, I encourage you to get involved in fixing or mitigating things if you can. With all these thoughts in mind, I created this sigil shoal using the Kamea of Venus, the planet which rules Taurus. The sigil intentions are to:

• Find a sensible, stable opportunity to do good work in the world. That leaves it completely open to whatever means good work to you - work with your family, your job, politics, whatever it is.
• Heal political rifts, whether personally, culturally, or in the halls of power.
• Reveal the intentions of Trump himself, his administration, those that surround him, and his political supporters and opponents. Basically to give the citizens information that we can use. Whether you are for, against, or neutral to Trump it's good to have information.
• Healthy strong ear, nose, and throat. These areas, especially the throat, are ruled by Taurus. Throat is traditionally specified but this also includes the neck.
• Robofish: Read the Charter for Compassion. You don't have to sign it, just read it. But signing is good too.

• Third parties didn't wind up in the national debates, but they did hold their own debates.
• Third parties made it onto nearly every ballot.
• I've seen a lot of party identity dismantled. I've seen life-long Republican family members not only reject Trump, but choose not to vote for any Republicans this year. I've seen Democrats vote third party. I've seen party Establishment not back the Republican presidential candidate (now President elect). I've seen more and more people disillusioned with the way things are.
• My muscles are feeling much better, I've learned about trigger points, and learned some new yoga tricks.

Some Sigil Suggestions

These instructions are shamelessly lifted from my last sigil shoal. My favorite guide to sigils is at http://runesoup.com/2012/03/ultimate-sigil-magic-guide. At a later time I'll write an article on sigils and their use, but for now I'd recommend the Runesoup guide, or else the following suggestions for how you might use sigils in your already-existing practice:

• Take some time to memorize what each sigil represents, then take some time to forget. Your unconscious mind will remember, and that's who'll do the work.
• Meditate on the sigils
• Visualize the "target" you want to affect with the sigil in white light over them, then charge the scene with energy
• In your dreamwork, astral projection, or shamanic journeying, release the sigils into the Universe to manifest on their own
• In prayer, visualize the sigils in glowing light and handing them over to your favorite deity, saint, or other spirit allies
• Print the sigils out and place them where you can see them without really noticing them
• Make the sigils the background on your devices

The sigils are organized into a "shoal" - a small collection of sigils that are activated together. As each intention is manifested, it helps each other intention to manifest because they get tangled together as you activate them together. For that reason a lot of magicians use a robofish, a sigil for a purpose that's easily obtainable or already accomplished. "I drink tea," "I put on pants," and so on. As you accomplish it it helps to manifest the other intentions. Maybe make an offering to a spirit or deity associated with Taurus, Venus (the ruler of Taurus), Neptune, or the Moon. Activate the sigils however you normally do or however fits in with your magickal practice. This whole week is a potent time. The moon is on Monday, and I'm posting this quite late on Monday night/Tuesday morning. On the 17th Neptune goes through the moon's south node, and on the 19th Neptune stations direct (comes out of retrograde). Sigils are most commonly generated by writing down an intention and then removing all vowels and repeated letters. The result is a pile of consonants that you transform into a picture, either by artistically smooshing the letters together and then altering it until it looks pleasing, or by plotting out the letters' numerological values on a magickal square (or kamea). You can create chants from the mixed up letters and sing them under your breath throughout the day, or for months to come if you choose. I generated the sigils using a free Android app called "Kamea Sigils Free" and took screenshots. I prefer to generate artistic sigils but this is a very cool app for when you're on the go. I used the magick square of Venus, the ruler of Taurus.
