I want to try something new on this site - coordinating political and activist magick for those who are interested. For now I'll be sharing sigils, a great technique made popular by chaos magick. My favorite guide to sigils is at http://runesoup.com/2012/03/ultimate-sigil-magic-guide. At a later time I'll write an article on sigils and their use, but for now I'd recommend the Runesoup guide, or else the following suggestions for how you might use sigils in your already-existing practice:
- Take some time to memorize what each sigil represents, then take some time to forget. Your unconscious mind will remember, and that's who'll do the work.
- Meditate on the sigils
- Visualize the "target" you want to affect with the sigil in white light over them, then charge the scene with energy
- In your dreamwork, astral projection, or shamanic journeying, release the sigils into the Universe to manifest on their own
- In prayer, visualize the sigils in glowing light and handing them over to your favorite deity, saint, or other spirit allies
- Print the sigils out and place them where you can see them without really noticing them
- Make the sigils the background on your devices
The sigils are organized into a "shoal" - a small collection of sigils that are activated together. As each intention is manifested, it helps each other intention to manifest because they get tangled together as you activate them together. For that reason a lot of magicians use a robofish, a sigil for a purpose that's easily obtainable or already accomplished. "I drink tea," "I put on pants," and so on. As you accomplish it it helps to manifest the other intentions.
According to astrologer Austin Coppock in his latest article about the Full Moon in Aquarius, this week is a time for examining our identities and breaking down ones that don't serve. It's also a time to look into what we are investing in, seeing where to let go, and potentially strengthening our investments in the relationships, ideas, and activities that we do want to hang onto. He also made reference to the idea of knots that entangle us. It's a good, short article, though if I can make one correction, Alexander the Great didn't cut through the Gordian Knot. He pulled out the chariot pole it was tied to.
In keeping with that theme, I wanted to create a sigil shoal that helps our country escape from entangling identities. For me that means seeing through partisanism and giving third parties a chance. I'm not telling you who to vote for. A lot of people absolutely don't want to vote third party during this election because they fear that will spoil the election and make Donald Trump president. I respect that. Vote for who you think is best. But I think it's hard to deny that a two-party duopoly is bad for our country in the long run. If you don't think it's safe to vote third party now, let's enchant for a near-term future where it will be.
Dissatisfaction with the two main parties is rife. For the last five elections or so, there have been more independents than Democrats and Republicans combined. There's a lot of room to "push" this issue magickally. There is some talk that Gary Johnson might make it into the presidential debates this year. I personally prefer Jill Stein as a candidate, but if Gary Johnson gets in that's a good thing. If you're worried that Jill Stein will spoil it for Clinton, then you should be thrilled that Gary Johnson might take away some of Trump's votes too. There's even talk that some important financial backers will switch to Johnson instead of Trump. If you believe that Bernie Sanders' presence in the race pushed Hillary Clinton to the left – and I don't, though it did help push the DNC platform to the left – then having an anti-war and anti-colonial candidate in the debates may push her in that direction as well. I think this is a great area for a magickal push.
And in any case, more options strengthens our country. There are only three reasons why third parties "can't win." 1. They don't get the visibility they need 2. They aren't on every ballot and 3. People are afraid to vote for them. But that fear would be unwarranted if the first two reasons didn't exist. So that's where I want to attack with magick.
I think our country is endangered not just by outside forces, but by the hatred that many Americans have for one another. Passions are really high and I think partisan identity fuels that. I think it's more important than ever to try to see where other people are coming from, and that's the reason I added a sigil for dismantling partisan identity. It doesn't mean that you therefore agree with the other person. For example, I think Trump would be a terrible president. I think that racism is a big part of his appeal, but I think it's important to not just stop there. People aren't racist because they were born evil. There's some kernel of fear or ignorance at its core, and that's something that can be addressed. Getting the right president is important, but it's only one part of changing the culture. Interpersonal interactions is what makes up our country, and the place where we have the most power to influence our country's direction.
Keeping with the knot theme, I put in an intention of releasing muscle knots. That's something a lot of people can use. The robofish for this shoal is signing a petition about the presidential debates. I've included links to three different ones. One on change.org, one on Jill Stein's site, and one on Gary Johnson's site. Sign one, sign them all, or find another one on your own. Completing the robofish for a sigil shoal helps bring the other intentions into manifestation. In that vein, doing something to manifest any of the other intentions helps the others ones to manifest as well. So doing something for your muscles knots or helping someone else with theirs (the sigil doesn't specify whose knots) will also help the other intentions.
Maybe make an offering to a spirit or deity associated with Aquarius, Saturn (the classical ruler of Aquarius), Uranus (the modern ruler of Aquarius), or the Moon. Austin Coppock suggests the 7 of Swords as a potent symbol of this week's energies as well. Activate the sigils however you normally do or however fits in with your magickal practice. This whole week is a potent time, or you can time it for the full moon on Thursday morning.
Sigils are most commonly generated by writing down an intention and then removing all vowels and repeated letters. The result is a pile of consonants that you transform into a picture, either by artistically smooshing the letters together and then altering it until it looks pleasing, or by plotting out the letters' numerological values on a magickal square (or kamea). You can create chants from the mixed up letters and sing them under your breath throughout the day, or for months to come if you choose.
My computer that has Photoshop is currently being repaired, so I generated the sigils using a free Android app called "Kamea Sigils Free" and took screenshots. I prefer to generate artistic sigils but this is a very cool app for when you're on the go. I used the magick square of Saturn, the classical ruler of Aquarius. (There is no traditional magick square for Uranus). Please comment with ideas for how to break these down into smaller goals for further sigil shoals, or practical advice for advocating for these changes out in the "real" world. Petitions:

Excellent ideas, imo. I signed all three petitions because I'm tired of voting for evil. Lesser or greater is only an adjective, they are both still evil.
